The Newest Member To Our Family!

Happy Saturday Everyone! Yesterday we brought home our fur baby, YAY! Okay, so now I’m going to give you a little background story on my family getting a dog. My husband has been throwing around the idea of us getting a dog, and I would look at him like he was crazy. I made up every excuse in the book for us not getting a dog. You see, we had two larger dogs a couple of years ago. However, our home is really small, and the larger dogs required a lot. It got to the point that, my husband was the only one that was able to walk them (Due to them not being properly trained). Which was truly unfair to my husband and them, fast forward to this year, one of my husband’s friends, has the most adorable little toy dog. For some reason or another, seeing pictures of him really made me want a dog. So for about a month now, I have been searching for a dog.

I really wanted to adopt a dog from one of our local dog shelters but those dogs really go fast. So my husband shared with a mutual friend that we were looking for a small dog, and she suggested that we look on craigslist? I was really hesitant about Craigslist just for the bad rap that it sometimes gets. Plus I actually never purchased anything from there before, and was scared out of my mind, any who I noticed yesterday that a local shelter had this adorable small dog, that I was adamant about getting this upcoming Tuesday, the only problem was that location was about 45 minutes away from our house, and I would have to be the first person their on Tuesday in order to get this dog. (No pre-application)

My husband was really supportive of me trying to get this dog. I explained to him my plans, and he suggested that I continue to look on craigslist in the meantime. I did, and I found this adorable posting for a Chihuahua /Poodle mix “Chipoo” however, there was a re-homing fee (which varies).  I texted the owner immediately and she responded immediately.  I just was not sure, if I wanted to go forth with the process. My husband and I briefly talked about it, did a little negotiating with the seller, and I thought the dog was mines. The only problem was that I had to wait for six hours to actually get the dog, of course the “what if’s” started to come to mind.  The main one was “What if she does not call me, when she said she would” (she did) But I am happy to say that we brought home Teddy! He was super shy at first. I had to run to Target to pick him up a couple of things, and when I returned. It was like he was truly home. We cannot get enough of him!

Basic Caramel Apple Recipe

Hello Friends!

It is that time of year!

It seems like the only opportunity I have to eat caramel apples during the fall. Well, as much as I like these yummy treats. I never successfully made any. While grocery shopping I saw the individually wrapped caramels and had no idea what I was going to do with them. And on a whim, I decided to make my favorite treat, and they came out perfect! Caramel and apples are the perfect combination to me, and now since I officially know how to make them. I am looking forward to seeing how creative I can beJ.

Recipe: via

5-6 Granny Smith apples (depending on the size of the apples)
 6 wooden sticks
1 (14 ounce) package individually wrapped caramels, unwrapped
 2 tablespoons water
 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

 Directions

1. Insert wooden sticks 3/4 of the way into the stem end of each apple. Place apples on a cookie sheet covered with parchment paper.

2. Combine caramels and water in a saucepan over low heat. Cook, stirring often, until caramel melts and are completely smooth. Stir in vanilla extract. Dip each apple into the caramel and gently run apples around insides of saucepan to scrape off some of the caramel. Scrape excess caramel from the apple bottoms using the side of the saucepan. Place on parchment paper and place in the refrigerator for an hour.

Falling in and Out of love with your spouse?

 via

Hello Friends!

I was actually reading a blog post yesterday about this topic and I wanted to touch on it a little bit. To me it is only natural to fall in and out of love with your spouse. **Now I mean this in normal circumstances. **

I strongly believe that it is very important to first reflect on yourself to see if you are still doing the same things you did when you first met your spouse, to get your spouse.  I know when we have children or even career changes, life just changes. However, it is very important to see what you could be doing to changing the situation.
Once you look in the mirror, now it is time to speak with your spouse. For some of you, this topic maybe "the story of your life", or this maybe the first time you are actually feeling this way about your spouse.  Communication is the key, sit down and talk, maybe the both of you could write a list of things that your spouse could do to change, and things that you could change to bring the spark back to the relationship.
It is also very very very important not to compare your relationship to other relationships you see in social media oryour family/friends. It is very easy to see how wonderful someone spouse is, and have that feeling of why my spouse could not be the same way or at least attempt to try and be. (Remember people show you, what they want you to know) Do not get me wrong, some people have wonderful relationship, but you are not that person, and you are not in that relationship.

I’m starting to see this post is getting really long J maybe I will have to do a vlog to follow up on this topic.

I always say, the same things you did to get him/her, is the same things you have to do to keep him or her!

Tips:
  • Always date your spouse (.i.e. have a date night, send love notes, leave chocolates on his/her pillow when weather permits)
  • Do not compare your relationship to others
  •
  • It is okay to guide the relationship, not control, guide (show your spouse how to be spontaneous or romantic)
  • Communication is key (Do not hold it in)
  • Love yourself First! (If you do not love you, you cannot be truly in love with someone else)
  • Keep other people out of your relationship (trust me, the same people telling you everything that is wrong with your husband, is the same person not in a relationship and/or not happy in their relationship)
  • It is okay to change for the better
  •
  • Make time!
  •
Any tips? How do you feel about this topic?

Frito-Lay Fan Pack

I am officially apart of the Frito-Lay fan program! Which I am so excited about, as part of the program I received a reusable shopping bag, water bottle, and three bags of Frito-lay’s (Parmesan & Herb 6 Grain Medley Sun Chips, Restaurant Style Tostitos, and Lay’s Kettle Cooked Applewood Smoked BBQ).
The chips could not have come at a better time, with football season in full affect; we will be eating lots Frito- Lay chips in our home. When the box first arrived, I was so excited to open all of the bag of chips, especially the Lay’s Kettle Cooked Applewood Smoked BBQ chips. When, I did get the chance to try them they were delish. I could not put the bag down, they were very flavorful, and the Mr. enjoyed the bag too (he actually finished the rest of the bag). The restaurant style Tostitos are the perfect size for my homemade dips that enjoy creating during football season, and I actually find myself snacking on them throughout the day. The Parmesan & Herb 6 Grain Medley Sun Chips were just as I expected, Delicious! These chips are the perfect combination, and were perfect paired with a glass of lemonade or cold glass of water or just as the perfect snack. Overall, the products that were sent to me were delicious; I also look forward to purchasing these items at my local store.

To learn more about the good fun at Frito-Lay, visit them on Facebook, and Twitter you can also check out the SnackChat blog.

Jamaican Porridge

Happy Wednesday Everyone!

My little guy has been in school officially for an entire week now It really is bitter sweet. Once school starts back it officially means fall is right around the corner. It has been relatively warm this summer I have been enjoying every minute of it. Anywho… my little guy loves homemade breakfast. He really does not care for frozen breakfast treats like French toast or pancakes, he loves semi fresh meals. This summer I tried to make one of my favorite Jamaican breakfast treats to prepare for fall and winter. I grew up eating porridge and I truly love all of the different variations. I actually tried making a similar recipe to this before and it really did not come out right at L So I decided to give it another try. I guess the second time was really the charm. I have been whipping up a batch at least once a week. It is super easy to make (as long as you follow the directions) plus you can store left over’s in the fridge for the next day! We really have not had much left overs. Once it starts to get a little colder outside I will start to make a larger batch to put into small portions in microwave safe bowls for my little guy in the morning, and me too.

Disclaimer: This recipe is not healthy at all, you can totally tailor it to your liking.

Cornmeal Porridge via

Recipe (serves 4-6)

1 cup Yellow Cornmeal (coarse or fine)
4 cups Water
¼ cup milk (or coconut, almond or soy milk)
½ cup Sweetened Condensed Milk
2 tbsp. Sugar (or honey) sweeten to taste
¼ tsp. Nutmeg (ground)
¼ tsp. Cinnamon (ground)
Vanilla Flavoring (2 drops)

Add cornmeal to a bowl, and then pour enough water into the bowl to cover the cornmeal. Use a fork to mix the cornmeal in the bowl to let the water and cornmeal ( mix loose and watery).
Bring the 4 cups of water to boil in a saucepan. Turn the heat to medium.

Slowly pour the water and cornmeal into the saucepan while stirring with a metal whisk. You will have to stir the mixture continuously for about 3 minutes. (If the porridge starts to splash turn down the heat) Cover the pot and let simmer for about twenty minutes. Occasionally stirring the mixture in the pot.

Turn off the fire but do not remove the pot from the stove. Now add all the ingredients and mix together, except for the nutmeg. Serve in small bowls and sprinkle with ground nutmeg.
